"The true purpose of man is the highest and most desirable formation of his powers into a whole."

Wilhelm von Humboldt

The vision - Advancing a country forward

Guinea-Bissau has a high economic potential in the agricultural and tourism sectors. The Wilhelm von Humboldt University Institute has set itself the goal of promoting and consolidating this potential by establishing sustainable educational opportunities for both domestic and foreign students. To achieve this, future leaders and key players of Guinea-Bissau will be qualified in an educational institution accredited according to European university standards. In this regard, the Wilhelm von Humboldt University Institute acts as an organic unit of the Universidade Amìlcar Cabral (UAC) while maintaining economic and operational independence.

Our guiding principles: Libertas, Scientia, Impetus

The German statesman, scholar and educator Wilhelm von Humboldt envisioned a "Universitas litterarum" in which the unity of teaching and research would be realized and an all-encompassing humanistic education is made possible for the students. The Humboldtian ideal of education, which we live by, therefore aims to promote education of men and women and their individuality in an all-embracing way.

The Wilhelm von Humboldt University Institute understands unity in diversity and wants to reduce differences between cultures and languages, without neglecting their students individuality. Against this background, the name Wilhelm von Humboldt not only stands for a strong European humanistic ideal of education, but also for a universal approach to the development of individuals in education-oriented developmental work.

Our guiding principles

The Wilhelm von Humboldt University Institute acts according to three core principles, which guide our faculty and students

LIBERTAS

Libertas (lat. freedom) means not only the independence of the university, but especially the freedom of the mind to constantly develop intellectually. Freedom means to shape one's life and thus one's future according to one's own will. The promotion of independent thinking on a scientific level is therefore an important concern for us, in order to prepare our students for the best possible start in their professional lives.

SCIENTIA

Scientia (lat. knowledge) enables the free development of personal abilities and talents. An autonomous individual is an individual who takes his or her destiny into their on hands in a self-determined and mature manner. We understand scientific research and teaching in the sense of Humboldt as our task to support people in the development of their individual intellectual abilities. We want to promote innovative research ideas and participate in their implementation.

IMPETUS

Impetus (Latin for passion) is the driving force behind our actions. We burn for our topics and want to convey this passion to our students. In order to achieve our goals and aspirations in research and teaching, we take paths that no one else has taken before us.

Why else study with us?

The staff at the institute attaches great importance to fast and solution-oriented processes. Administrative acts are implemented in a individual and timely manner to minimize disruption to academic flow.

The Institute at Mansôa University creates conducive teaching and learning conditions based on European university standards. The Wilhelm von Humboldt University Institute is characterized by a range of attractive teaching and learning opportunities, which guarantees international connectivity. The university offers a modern infrastructure and intensive supervision in order to ensure the best possible academic success. The quality of teaching is continuously improved at the university, especially in the area of adapting the studies to new requirements, the study conditions as well as an increased offer of high school didactics.

In addition to an excellent professional education, the students developement of personal competences for a constantly changing job market is part of the professional scientific preparation. In addition to solid qualifications, the job market increasingly requires interdisciplinary, social and intercultural skills, the ability to change and redesign, and a willingness to engage in lifelong learning. This also applies to the new doctoral programs, which are geared toward a research career and help young researchers to become creative, responsible and internationally active scientists
